What Insights shows

The Insights page is the financial summary dashboard. It aggregates all reviewed expenses and income for the selected entity type and financial year, and displays them as totals, category breakdowns, and monthly trend charts.

Key figures shown: total income for the period, total expenses for the period, net balance (income minus expenses), and top spending categories by amount.

Financial year and month filtering

Insights respects the financial year set in your data. The financial year format is DD.MM.YYYY–DD.MM.YYYY (for example, 01.01.2025–31.12.2025 for a January–December calendar year). All totals and charts filter by the selected period.

You can also filter by specific months within a year. Use the month selector to view a single month's breakdown.

Why totals might look wrong

If totals in Insights look incorrect, the cause is almost always in the data, not in Insights itself. Common causes: transactions with wrong categories are inflating one category total; transactions uploaded to the wrong entity type are not visible; rows tagged "unsure" may not be counted in expected category totals; or a duplicate upload inflated all totals.

The fix is always in Review: correct categories, delete duplicates, and ensure all rows are in the right entity workspace.

Recurring expenses in Insights

Insights can surface recurring expense groups — merchants or services that appear consistently across multiple months. These groups are based on matched descriptions after merchant normalization. If a recurring service appears as different merchant names across months, the grouping will be incomplete. Normalize descriptions in Review by correcting inconsistent merchant names.

Notion sync

If you have configured a Notion integration, you can push reviewed expenses and income to a linked Notion database from the Review page. Synced rows are marked with a sync indicator. Insights reflects all data regardless of sync status.
