Review
How the Review tab works
Validate extracted transactions and keep records accurate.
Updated: 2026-10-07
Before you start
- At least one completed upload
- Entity type set to match the uploaded data
Layered workflow
Layer 1: Filter and isolate
- Open a view (All, Needs review, or one you saved), then narrow it with the period, the search field and Add filter.
- Start with Needs review: it lists transactions with a missing or vague category, a missing date, a zero or negative amount, or a low scan-confidence score.
Layer 2: Correct and standardize
- Apply inline edits to fix individual rows: category, amount, description, and date.
- Use bulk edit to apply the same category change to multiple selected rows at once.
- Move rows between expense and income if the direction was extracted incorrectly.
- Move rows to Personal or Business if they were uploaded under the wrong entity — the dialog translates their categories for you.
Layer 3: Finalize and proceed
- After corrections, data is ready for Insights reporting, Notion sync, or invoice reference.
- Repeat this loop after every upload batch before moving to month-end tasks.
Purpose of Review
Review is where you confirm, correct, and finalize extracted expenses and income before they feed into reporting, Notion sync, or invoicing workflows. Raw extractions always contain some rows that need human validation — Review is the tool for that.
Views
The tabs at the top of Review are views. All shows every transaction in the period. Needs review shows only the transactions that need a quick check, with their count. Views you save appear next to them: up to four can be pinned as tabs, and the rest are under More views.
Review opens the view a link points to, for example after an upload or from the AI assistant. Otherwise it opens your default view, or Needs review when something needs checking, otherwise All. Reloading the page or sharing its link keeps the search, period, filters and sort you are looking at.
When you change the search, filters or sort of an open view, its tab shows Edited. Choose Save to update the view, Save as new to keep the change as another view, or Discard to go back. All and Needs review cannot be changed, so they only offer Save as new.
- To save a view, narrow the list, choose Save as view and enter a name. Tick "Include the period" to save the period as well; leave it off to use the view with whatever period you are looking at.
- In More views, search your views, pin or unpin them, rename them, set one as the default, or delete one. Deleting a view does not change any transactions.
- Discarding changes, clearing filters and deleting a view can be undone from the message that appears.
Filtering the transaction list
The period button sets which dates you see: All time, Last 30 days, This month, Last month, a year, a month in that year, or a custom range picked in the calendar. The period applies only to Review; Insights and Subscriptions keep their own.
The search field finds rows by description or category. Add filter narrows the list further by Category (one or more), Paid with, Needs review, Hide not counted, or File. Paid with appears once you have at least one payment-account label.
Each filter appears as a chip. Select a chip to change it, or its × to remove only that filter. Clear filters removes all the chips but keeps your search, period and sort.
A category filter that does not exist on the other tab or in the other workspace is paused there rather than removed, and applies again when you come back.
The line above the table shows how many transactions match and their counted total. Totals include every matching transaction, not only the rows on screen; select Show more to load the next rows. Transfers and card payoffs stay in the list but are not counted.
Review loads your 5,000 most recently added transactions. If you have more, a notice above the table says so, and older transactions are missing from the list and its totals.
Files are named after what they contain, for example "Amex · Jan–Jun 2026" or "Wolt · 2 Jul 2026", so a download called activity.csv is easy to recognise. The original file name is shown underneath.
Sorting
The list is sorted by date, newest first. Select a column heading (Date, Amount, Description, Category, Paid with, Month or Year) to sort by it, and select it again to reverse the order. With a keyboard, move to the heading with Tab and press Enter or Space. On a phone, sorting is in the Filters panel.
Rows without a value, for example without a date, are always listed last.
Editing a transaction inline
Select a description, amount, category, month or date to edit it directly. With a keyboard, use Tab to reach the field, then Enter or Space to open it. Press Enter to save a text, amount or date edit, or Escape to cancel. Changing a date also updates the row's month and year.
The category opens a searchable list. Suggested categories come first, such as the one you usually use for this merchant and ones you used recently, then every category from A to Z, with your own categories marked "custom". Type to filter the list. Everyday words and German or Finnish words work too: "food" or "Lebensmittel" finds grocery store.
If no category matches, choose Create "…" to add a new one. It is created only when you select that option or press Enter. After you pick a category, the cursor moves to the next row's category, so you can work down the list with the keyboard.
When other rows from the same merchant exist, Review offers to apply the same category to them too.
When the table is narrow
When the table is too narrow for every column, for example on a small laptop or with the AI assistant open, Month and Year are hidden first because they repeat the date. A "columns hidden" button above the table says how many are hidden; open it to keep Month or Year on screen. The table then scrolls sideways, and the checkbox and description columns stay in place.
Selecting rows and bulk editing
Select rows with the checkboxes on the left. The checkbox in the header selects every row on screen; to include all matching transactions, choose Select all N matching in the line that appears. When the list changes, rows that no longer match are deselected and Review tells you.
With rows selected, the action bar lets you edit them together, move them between expenses and income or to the other workspace, create an automation, or delete them. Bulk edit helps when one merchant shows up with the wrong category many times: search for the merchant, select all matching rows and change the category once.
Deleting asks for confirmation and states how many transactions will be removed. Right after deleting, select Undo in the message to bring them back.
Moving a row between expense and income
Occasionally the parser extracts a credit (income) as an expense or vice versa — especially with refunds and balance adjustments. Use the row's edit panel to move it to the correct table. Moving a row between expense and income changes both its storage table and its effect on totals in Insights.
Paid with: which account paid a row
The Paid with column shows, as a coloured label, which of your own cards, bank accounts or wallets paid each row. It starts blank, and rows uploaded before the column existed stay blank until you set them.
Labels are created for you once you upload statements from two different accounts, for example a bank account and a credit card. The upload summary lists the accounts it recognised, fills in Paid with for their rows, and lets you rename each label. Later statements from the same account get their label automatically. A receipt that prints a card's last four digits gets that card's label when exactly one label matches.
Labels belong to your whole account, so the same label is available in personal and business. Each name can be used once and can be up to 40 characters long.
Labels also let numwisely recognise a bank payment that paid off one of your cards or topped up a wallet, see "Card payoffs and transfers".
If one account was recognised as two labels, for example once from a download that names the bank and once from a download that only shows the IBAN, the two labels are merged the next time payments are checked.
- To set one row, select its Paid with cell and pick a label. To add a new label, type its name and choose Create.
- For a row imported from a file, keep "Also change the other rows from this file" ticked to label the whole statement at once. Untick it to change only that row.
- To set several rows, select them and open bulk edit. Choose "No account" to clear the label.
- To see one account's rows, choose Add filter → Paid with. It appears once you have at least one label.
- To rename, recolour, merge or delete labels, open Settings and go to Preferences → Payment accounts. Merging moves every row to the other label. Deleting keeps the rows and removes only the label, and the statements it came from do not bring it back.
Using Review on a phone
On a phone, transactions are shown as cards. Select Filters next to the search field to open a panel with the period, sorting, categories and the other filters. Your changes apply when you select Show N results; closing the panel without it leaves the list as it was.
Tools and Export are under More actions.
Keyboard shortcuts
Select the keyboard button above the table, or press ?, to see this list in the app. Shortcuts pause while you type and while a menu or dialog is open. The arrow keys move between rows only once a row has focus.
- / — search
- f — add a filter
- j or ↓ — next row; k or ↑ — previous row
- Shift+j or Shift+↓ — add the next row to the selection
- x — select or deselect the row
- c — change the row's category
- Esc — clear the selection
- ? — show the shortcuts
Recommended review checklist
Run this checklist after every upload to prevent reporting and invoicing mistakes.
- Open Needs review and fix every row it lists.
- Scan for unusually large or small amounts that may indicate a parsing error.
- Check that month and date fields match the actual transaction date from the source document.
- Verify amounts use the correct currency separator — some European formats use commas as decimal separators.
- Use Add filter → File to confirm each uploaded file produced the rows you expected.
